Tin Is the Traditional 10th Wedding Anniversary Gift.
If you are wondering why we give Tin to celebrate 10 years of marriage, then let us tell you. Tin is a flexible, malleable and yielding metal, yet also solid and long lasting. All qualities garnered and honed over the course of 10 years of marriage.
The sheer flexibility of Tin is one of the reasons we love working with it so much. It lends itself well to many of our processes, such as shaping, hammering & hand stamping. Tin can also be polished to a stunningly high shine, easily rivalling Silver.
Originally known as Stannum in Latin, Tin was first mined in Turkey around 3500 BC, and around 2000 BC in Britain. Due to it's vast deposits of tin, Cornwall soon became the tin mining centre of the world.
Clues as to Cornwall's ancient mining heritage are dotted around the county, with the beautiful remains of engine houses standing proud amongst the rugged landscape, such as Wheal Prosper located at Rinsey, on the South West Coast of Cornwall, pictured below.
Personally speaking, tin has been a feature of our lives long before Chris and I started creating with Vision Arts Tin. Having the privilege to live in Cornwall, for over a decade we both worked at a local mining tourist attraction, known as Poldark Mine, (originally known as Wheal Roots) as the Mine Manager and Office Administrator respectively.
Our small Workshop is located on the outskirts of the Wendron Mining District, one of the oldest recorded mining areas in Cornwall, with tin works dating back to the 1500s.
So if you're looking for something special to give to celebrate a 10th Wedding Anniversary, then you've come to the right place. Our items are handmade from Tin, in our small family run workshop, located in the heart of Cornwall, the historic home of tin, and tin mining
